Rainy Day

People don't usually get too excited about rainy days...but here on the farm it was much needed. Jeff is ecstatic. And to be honest, so are Tucker and I since we've been doing a lot of watering the past few days! We woke up this morning to see that it had sprinkled a little overnight, and it has since been drizzling all day. Tucker And I spent the morning picking up scrap metal from around the barns and took it to the scrap metal yard where we got 86 WHOLE DOLLARS, YEAH! Well worth the blood, sweat and time for that rusty steel. The rest of the day was spent planting onions and working on the pig barn, which may become the henhouse! Wouldn't that be exciting.
Picturehomemade strawberry ice cream
Yesterday we made homemade ice cream from raw milk, raw cream, and fresh strawberries! It was seriously amazing. Why can't all ice cream be made like this?? Without all the extra, unhealthy additives. It tastes better when it's simple! One of the biggest turn offs for me when looking at ice cream ingredients is the carageenan. Even the ice creams that don't have high fructose corn syrup, or soy ingredients seem to still have carageenan. It's sad. I get that big companies would rather put extra additives in than serve pure cream so they can save money or whatever, but the more informed people become, the more money they'll lose from people like me not buying it! For now i'll just have to make homemade ice cream if I want it.

Since getting here I've learned how to weld, drive a tractor, identify tons of fruits and vegetables, get honey from the comb, and make ice cream, among maaaaany other small things. I can't even begin to explain how fortunate I feel and how grateful I am to get to work, live, learn, and eat on this farm. The work is so gratifying and by the end of the day I'm  e x h a u s t e d. And dirty. And smelly. Honestly farm life if a good life for me because I'm alwayssss smelly but on the farm it doesn't matter. It's awesome.

Since Rilo is back in school, I guess the blogging duties are now mine. I will do my best to keep up to date with the happenings here on the farm!

Jeff is my uncle, the brother of my mom! He and Diana welcomed me to the farm to work for a few months after finishing my first year of college in Virginia.
